Job description

Fiber Network Services is a communications contractor offering a full range of fiber optic and cable network services. Servicing Cox Communications, Comcast Cable, Segra, and Suddenlink across Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., we are a trusted resource for building and maintaining high-speed connectivity through fiber optic and coaxial systems.
Fiber Network Services is seeking a skilled and motivated Metro Ethernet (Metro E) Technician at our Winchester/Stephens City, VA location to support the installation, testing, turn-up, and maintenance of Ethernet services across our fiber network.
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
  • Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot Metro Ethernet (Layer 2/Layer 3) services
  • Perform service turn-ups, circuit testing, and customer activations
  • Install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cabling
  • Test fiber using OTDR, power meters, and other diagnostic tools
  • Configure and troubleshoot network equipment (switches, routers, NIDs, ONTs)
  • Perform VLAN provisioning, loop testing, and bandwidth verification
  • Interpret network diagrams, schematics, and fiber route maps
  • Respond to service outages and perform troubleshooting to restore connectivity
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installations, testing results, and service changes
  • Follow all company safety standards and field procedures
Job Responsibilities:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • 2+ years of experience in telecommunications, fiber optics, or Metro Ethernet environments preferred
  • Experience with fiber splicing, termination, and testing equipment (OTDR, power meters)
  • Familiarity with carrier Ethernet standards and service delivery
  • Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and construction prints
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Metro E turn-up and carrier-grade equipment a plus
  • Experience working with major cable providers (Cox, Comcast, etc.) a plus
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
