Job description

Our client, a luxury retail company, is seeking a Merchandising Coordinator / Manager to join their team on a hybrid schedule in New York City (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). This is a temporary assignment expected to begin at the end of June and continue for approximately six months.


This role will support the merchandising team in driving product performance across retail and wholesale channels. The ideal candidate will assist with buying activities, inventory management, sales analysis, market research, and cross-functional coordination to ensure product assortments are aligned with business objectives and customer demand. Depending on experience level, this individual may take ownership of additional merchandising initiatives and strategic analysis.


Job Responsibilities

  • Support daily merchandising and buying activities, including product assortment planning, order preparation, and inventory management.
  • Assist with seasonal buying processes, including order entry, sizing scales, store allocations, and assortment analysis.
  • Manage replenishment and seasonal restocking activities to maintain optimal inventory levels across retail locations.
  • Coordinate product transfers between stores based on inventory levels, sales performance, and business needs.
  • Assist with after-market order processes, including assortment analysis, buy layouts, order tracking, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Analyze sales performance by product category, style, and store location to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports to support merchandising, planning, and leadership teams.
  • Monitor inventory productivity and product performance to ensure the appropriate assortment mix across locations.
  • Update and analyze retail and wholesale selling reports, including weekly flash reports and location-level performance analysis.
  • Support forecasting and planning initiatives through data analysis and reporting.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify trends, pricing strategies, and customer preferences.
  • Assist in gathering insights on market conditions, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities.
  • Prepare presentations, reporting materials, and business recommendations for leadership review.
  • Partner closely with retail, planning, operations, visual merchandising, and wholesale teams to support business objectives.
  • Assist with scheduling store visits and visual merchandising reviews as needed.
  • Coordinate communications related to seasonal product updates, pricing changes, cancellations, style updates, and inventory initiatives.
  • Create presentation materials and support documentation for meetings, product reviews, and special projects.


Job Qualifications:

  • Coordinator Level: 1+ years of merchandising, buying, allocation, planning, or retail operations experience.
  • Manager Level: 4+ years of merchandising, buying, allocation, planning, or retail operations experience.
  • Luxury retail, fashion, accessories, beauty, or premium consumer goods experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales, inventory, and market data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and presentation development.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally across multiple teams.


Salary

Coordinator Level: $30-$35/hour, depending on experience

Manager Level: $40-$45/hour, depending on experience
