Operating Engineer - JLL

What this job involves:

Join JLL as an Operating Engineer and become a vital member of our facilities team at the iconic Merchandise Mart in Chicago. This role is perfect for skilled tradespeople who excel at keeping complex building systems running smoothly and take pride in maintaining high-performance facilities. You'll be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment while demonstrating expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Carpentry) and multi-skilled capabilities across other technical disciplines.

As an Operating Engineer, you'll be the hands-on expert ensuring all facility and building systems meet the highest standards. From managing work orders and performing preventive maintenance to coordinating with vendors and handling asset recovery, your technical expertise and proactive approach will keep operations running seamlessly while delivering exceptional service to our clients.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to furniture, mechanical systems, and general building components
  • Ensure all facility and building systems are maintained to applicable standards
  • Provide facility services including preventive maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general maintenance tasks
  • Manage, track, and complete work orders in Corrigo as submitted by the client; ensure timely and accurate documentation of work order status and resolution
  • Manage asset recovery for the site, ensuring all discarded items are inventoried, tracked, and disposed of in accordance with client security procedures
  • Review daily client service requests and ensure timely completion
  • Evaluate vendors and suppliers regularly regarding quality and competitive pricing
  • Verify the accuracy of deliveries, including count, pricing, and description
  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors
  • Record equipment readings, make adjustments as necessary, and ensure proper operation of all systems
  • Comply with policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe workplace
  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experienced labor professional with 3+ years in union representation
  • Ability to analyze system operations, determine sources of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective actions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently or as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Lenovo space in Chicago and Merchandise Mart or similar commercial buildings
  • General handyman skills that cover relocation, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general repairs
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as Corrigo.

Work Shift:

Monday - Friday, 1st Shift (days off to align with current Lenovo holiday schedule)

Salary/ Comp:

$73,000 - $85,000 annually

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

73,000.00 - 85,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
