General Job Description:

The Director of Mortgage Lending (DML) will back up the Vice President of Mortgage Origination in all aspects of their duties. The DML has leadership level responsibility for developing and executing comprehensive mortgage lending strategies that deliver on the vision, mission and brand promise of MCCU. This position has strategic leadership responsibility for the mortgage lending operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

• Along with the VP of Mortgage Origination, the DML will provide strategic leadership for MCCU’s Mortgage Lending Origination Department. Develops and executes strategies, including innovative solution development, initiate third party origination partnerships, operational effectiveness and efficiencies to improve service levels, increase productivity, and grow volume and related revenue.

• Collaborates with the VP of Mortgage Origination, as well as the MCCU Leadership Team to determine and implement the corporate culture, strategic plans, tactics, budgets and priorities of the organization.

• The DML will assist with the management of mortgage origination, processing, underwriting, and closing while ensuring high quality customer service to both internal and external partners. Ensures operational priorities are aligned with organizational objectives. Comprehensive solutions are regularly evaluated, focus on reducing the time to close and improving the borrower experience, and modified to meet the changing needs of the MCCU Member base and industry requirements.

• Foster and maintain positive relationships with both co-workers and members by actively embracing and demonstrating MCCU's culture, known as IMPACT.


Operational Excellence

• Leads efforts to transform and improve performance efficiency of the business units, through innovative solutions, for optimizing their actions and drive results, ultimately reducing the cost of origination. This includes developing and executing plans for process improvement efforts, developing and managing budgets and tactics, and managing and forecasting staffing needs to support steady growth and loan volume.

• Establishes, monitors and reports on production activity and key performance indicators to ensure processes efficiency, compliant with internal and external quality standards, investor guidelines, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and applicable law and regulation, while performing at a high level and delivering required results. Resolves deficiencies in an appropriate and timely manner.

• Able to directly serve in origination, underwriting, pricing and operations positions to ensure no single points of failure or service delays in Mortgage Lending channel.


Service Quality & Member Satisfaction

• Monitor, report and improve key performance metrics in daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual formats.

• Review and analyze reports and member feedback to continuously improve the member experience, employee knowledge, efficiency, response time, accuracy.

• Ensure the delivery of friendly, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and associates.

• Assist and/or handle complex member issues to resolution, providing solutions that are beneficial to both the member and the credit union.


Sales & Cross-Selling/ Member Relationship Management

• Represent the credit union in its relationships with members, sponsor organizations, suppliers, other financial institutions, and similar groups.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key members and stakeholders, acting as a primary point of contact for high-value or complex inquiries.

• Contribute to overall organizational performance goals by deepening member relationships and driving business to other MCCU Channels including consumer lending, deposit and business accounts.

• Drives business to the channel by participating in community events, networking events as well as hosting educational seminars

• Collaborates across channels to promote mortgage channel through networking and training.


Staff Development & Performance Management

• Manages and coaches a highly productive team of experts. Provides expert guidance to team for advancement through the betterment of their technical, supervisory and leadership skills.

• Lead, coach, and motivate Mortgage Origination and Operations employees to meet goals and develop in their knowledge, skills and abilities.


Secondary Market Administration

• Assists in the purchase of closed mortgage loans on a participation basis, including underwriting prospective purchases for quality and compliance.

• Assists in the sale of MCCU closed loans to FHLB as needed, to include pricing and committing loans in FHLB’s EMPF system and delivering of Notes to FHLB’s Collateral Warehouse.

• DML will be able to handle all secondary marketing activities as needed, to include daily pricing, locking and pipeline management analysis.


Skills/Abilities:

• Maintain all required NMLS, state and Safe Act Licensing requirements as required for control person purposes.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze, reason, problem solve and prioritize work independently.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and solve problems and/or design recommendations to accomplish business and tactical goals.

• Demonstrated ability to properly develop and manage internal controls.

• Demonstrated ability to administer various LOS systems, specifically Calyx Point.

• Demonstrated ability to understand complex laws and regulations that govern mortgage lending.

• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and balance risk management against legitimate business needs.

• Demonstrated ability to lead.


Education & Experience:

• At least 5 years management experience in the mortgage industry is required. Prefer executive management/leadership experience with responsibility for complex operations.
