What the Facility Wants (Requirements & Expectations)

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience Required: Strong Med/Surg background required due to a wide variety of patients. No first-time travelers accepted.
  • Certifications: BLS required and NIHSS required for all RNs and LPNs (ACLS and PALS recommended but not required).
  • Mandatory Submission Requirement: All submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate's driver's license.

Clinical Skills & Patient Types

  • Unit Details: Med/Surg Unit (32 total beds, currently operating at 20 due to staffing). Unit accepts both RNs and LPNs.
  • Patient Types: Chest pain, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgeries, and pediatric patients. (Cannot take laboring moms or patients requiring titrating cardiac drips or insulin drips).
  • Drips & Equipment: No titratable drips required. CPAP/BiPAP (managed by RT) and high-flow are utilized.
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required (along with MediTech training coordinated by the education department).
  • Telemetry: ICU monitors and reads strips, faxing them to Med/Surg for the nurse to document.

Scheduling & Unit Policies

  • Ratios: No more than 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio; supported by 3 CNAs per shift.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required (night shifts fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Block scheduling is available if requested and approved by the manager.
  • Holidays: Rotates with regular staff.
  • Floating Requirements: Floating is required; Med/Surg frequently floats to assist other units as a tasker or extra set of hands.
  • Orientation: 3 to 5 days of training on the unit, including a review with the manager, tour, hospital policies, and system training.
