How much do medical welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for medical welding in the United States is $41.61, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34.38 and $47.36 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can welding cause floaters?

Medical welding involves working with metals and intense light sources like arc or laser welding, which can expose workers to ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. Prolonged exposure without proper eye protection may contribute to eye damage, but floaters are typically caused by age-related changes or eye trauma rather than welding. Proper safety measures, including protective eyewear, are essential to minimize risks.

Can you make $100,000 as a welder?

Medical welders, who specialize in welding for medical equipment and devices, can potentially earn $100,000 or more annually with extensive experience, specialized skills, and certifications. However, typical welding roles in industrial or construction settings often have lower average salaries, and reaching six figures usually requires advanced expertise, high-demand certifications, and working in high-paying industries or locations.

What is a Medical Welding job?

A Medical Welding job involves welding and fabricating metal components used in medical equipment, surgical instruments, or healthcare facilities. Medical welders work with materials like stainless steel and titanium to ensure precision, strength, and biocompatibility. They must follow strict industry standards and safety regulations to produce high-quality, sterile welds. This role requires specialized training in welding techniques, blueprint reading, and working in cleanroom environments.

What are typical challenges faced by Medical Welders in the medical device manufacturing industry?

Medical Welders often encounter challenges such as maintaining precision and consistency when working with small, intricate parts and biocompatible materials like stainless steel or titanium. They must also rigorously adhere to cleanliness standards and strict documentation requirements to comply with industry regulations. Additionally, the need for error-free work places high importance on focus and manual dexterity. Collaborating closely with quality assurance teams and engineers is common to ensure each product meets stringent guidelines. Overcoming these challenges contributes to producing critical medical devices that are safe and reliable for patient use.

Can you make $300,000 as a welder?

Medical welders or specialized welders in high-demand industries can potentially earn $300,000 annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced certifications, and working in high-paying sectors like aerospace or oil and gas. However, most welders' salaries typically range from $40,000 to $80,000 per year, with top earners in specialized fields reaching higher incomes through overtime, bonuses, or supervisory roles.

What is medical welding?

Medical welding is a specialized process used to join or repair metal components in medical devices and equipment, ensuring they meet strict safety and hygiene standards. Welders in this field often work with stainless steel and other biocompatible materials, requiring precision and knowledge of sterilization protocols. Certification and adherence to healthcare regulations are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Medical Welding position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Medical Welding, you need expertise in precision welding techniques, a strong understanding of medical device manufacturing standards, and typically a relevant technical certification or associate degree. Familiarity with specialized equipment such as TIG welders, cleanroom protocols, and adherence to ISO and FDA regulations are commonly required. Attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively are soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills are vital for producing high-quality, sterile medical devices that meet strict regulatory and patient safety standards.
