Purpose:

The Fit Up Inspector is a critical and demanding position, which job duties entail meeting quality and daily production demands, in addition to the final assembly of domestic and international bearings. The Fit Up Inspector is responsible for assuring all previous work has been completed and is up to standard before the final assembly process begins. The Fit Up Inspector conducts detailed visual and dimensional inspections utilizing various inspection gages and fixtures. The Fit Up Inspector determines the correct rolling elements to install into the bearings, records their final dimensions and processes bearings to Final Inspection. Most importantly Fit Up Inspectors are accountable for producing conforming bearings by applying both Work Instructions and Engine Manual criteria to every bearing overhauled.

    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reading Micrometers
  • Reading Dial Indicators
  • Setting up radial clearance gages and inspecting IRC
  • Setting up and inspecting race run-out
  • Using and reading dial calipers
  • Visual inspection to detect nicks, dings, dents, corrosion or fatigue
  • Visual inspection of rollers and retainers
  • Cleaning, washing and handling all components
  • Properly loading and staking of retainer tangs
  • Measuring Inspecting of roller end play
  • Inspecting face parallelism
  • Inspecting ring widths
  • Marking specialized identification marks such as X marks
  • Recognize race condition through IRC
  • Accuracy of visual checks for surface defects and dimensional conformance to specifications
  • Gauging advance measurement of bearing geometry using gauging equipment as well as calipers, micrometers and dial indicators
  • May assist in other areas not described as we flex associates to busy areas if their work slows
  • Follow Quality procedures, work instructions, and shop travelers
  • Safety and attention to detail to prevent injury to self and others

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

High School Diploma with prior experience inspecting radial clearance or have a min. 1 – ½ yrs. Exp. at bearing inspection

Aptitude in basic to advanced shop math

Experience or aptitude for reading gauges

Strong communication & interpersonal skills

Demonstrated computer aptitude

Problem Solving 

Self-motivated team player

Pay Range: $24 -$32 an hour
