Job Title: Welding Engineer
Job Description
The Welding Engineer provides daily welding and dispense technical support to Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams within a highly automated body shop environment. This role serves as a key technical resource for troubleshooting welding and dispense equipment failures, improving maintenance troubleshooting capabilities, and driving continuous improvements in welding and dispense processes in alignment with applicable standards. It is a contract-to-hire opportunity with strong potential for career growth into other departments or leadership roles.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day technical support for welding and dispense operations to Maintenance and Quality teams in a manufacturing body shop environment.
- Troubleshoot welding and dispense related equipment failures and identify root causes to restore reliable operation.
- Serve as a technical resource for welding standards (including GMW standards) and ensure processes align with these requirements.
- Coach and teach maintenance team members to improve their troubleshooting skills and overall technical capability.
- Support Quality and Production teams in implementing continuous improvements to welding and dispense processes.
- Collaborate with body shop maintenance personnel and technical support groups to resolve complex equipment and process issues.
- Participate in projects involving new robots and upgrades to existing automation equipment, ensuring proper welding and dispense performance.
- Work on the body shop plant floor to monitor welding and dispense operations and respond to issues in real time.
- Document findings, recommendations, and process changes to support ongoing reliability and quality improvements.
- Work overtime and off-shift as needed and rotate between shifts to provide consistent technical coverage.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

- Knowledge of welding engineering principles, including resistance welding.

- Ability to work effectively in both production and engineering office settings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Body shop maintenance experience.
- Experience working as a Body Shop Maintenance Group Leader or in technical support for body shop operations.
- Bachelor's degree in weld engineering.
- experience in mechanical engineering and manufacturing.
- Experience with automated production systems and robotic welding equipment.
- Familiarity with GMW welding standards and their application in production environments.
Work Environment
The role is based primarily in a production and manufacturing environment (approximately 75% of the time) and partially in an engineering office setting (approximately 25% of the time), supporting the body shop group. The department is heavily automated and is actively bringing in new robots and upgrading existing automation equipment. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times in production areas, including safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and arm covers. The facility operates multiple shifts, and the position requires the ability to work overtime, off-shifts, and rotate shifts as needed to support continuous production. The broader site is a large-scale automotive manufacturing campus with thousands of employees and extensive body shop operations, offering significant opportunities for growth into other departments and future leadership roles.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wentzville, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $44.00/hr.
