Job description

Oversees Medical Scribes including staff scheduling, training, onboarding, competency assessment and ongoing performance monitoring. Ensures accurate and timely documentation of the medical chart under the supervision of the medical provider and supports provider efficiency, workflow, and patient satisfaction. Accompanies providers during the patient examination to document detailed information into the electronic medical record (EMR); performs other related medical record or clerical duties to improve clinical efficiency.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares and oversees the schedule for Medical Scribes to ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Monitors staff productivity; conducts performance evaluations and compentency statements for Medical Sribes while providing ongoing education and coaching.
  • Orients new staff to the units and specialties
  • Reviews and identifies medical record documentation for medical provider(s).
  • Accompanies the medical provider during patient visit to capture and transcribe medical record documentation directly into the electronic medical record system (EMR).
  • Alerts medical provider to patients waiting to be seen.
  • Act as a primary liaison between medical providers and scribe staff while identifying and troubleshooting issues to maintain efficiency.
  • Tracking laboratory and imaging studies to alert medical provider of completed results.
  • Ensures compliance with documentation requirements including appropriate attestation to include: Scribe name, title, medical, and date/time entry.
  • Prepares all documentation for medical provider's final review and signature.
  • Performs routine chart audits to check for accuracy, completeness, and errors.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements relating to HIPPA and the Joint Commission.
  • Addresses employee concerns while conducting corrective action as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
