PHSU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE 

PHSU St. Louis opened its new School of Medicine in August 2022 as part of an multi-million educational investment in north St. Louis. With the expansion of our medical program in St. Louis, we will put action behind our vision of providing real education and research opportunities in a community dedicated to addressing and impacting health disparities on local and national levels. PHSU is thrilled to continue our mission to give more students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds access to high-quality medical education and careers.

PHSU St. Louis also currently offers graduate level PsyD and MSMS programs and an undergraduate BSN program.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position provides support for medical students in the School of Medicine for St. Louis, MO. The duties include, but are not limited to coaching and advising career paths, programs, and future planning for our medical students through graduation. 

SUMMARY & PRINCIPLE DUTIES: Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide support for medical students on our St. Louis campus.  This individual should also maintain regular communication with our other campuses to ensure consistency and compatibility of academic support services across campuses. 

The Academic Advisor should possess a graduate degree within medical/health professions programs.

COMPETENCIES:

To perform the job successfully, the Academic Advisor should demonstrate strong communication, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret academic performance indicators and collaborate effectively with faculty, course directors, and Student Affairs.  Familiarity with medical education structures, board preparation processes, and accreditation expectations, including LCME standards related to advising and student support, is preferred but not required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of a terminal degree in higher education: PhD, MD, or DO preferred; EdD with six months of related experience in health education. 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams. Knowledge of Canvas application strongly preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to use hands to type on computer, operate office equipment and handle books, files, documents, etc. Must be able to talk and hear to answer phones and when assisting others. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and to stoop or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift objects weighing from 10 - 30 pounds and possibly up to 50 pounds. Close vision needed to use computer. Must have distance vision and depth perception for safety purposes.
