Job Description Summary:

Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks that are vital to patient care. Medical Assistants must adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion during all interactions.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or be a certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience, to qualify.
  • Phlebotomy skills are preferred.

What You'll Do:

As a Medical Assistant, you'll play a vital role in the care team - supporting providers, connecting with patients, and helping ensure a seamless, compassionate experience every day.

As a key member of the ambulatory care team, you will:

  • Welcome patients and support their transition into care.
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed.
  • Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.
  • Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Our family medicine clinics are where residents learn to be family physicians. Throughout their three years of training, residents learn effective models of outpatient care, disease prevention, health promotion and practice management skills.

Clinics are designed around large staffing rooms, where residents have access to faculty staffers and extensive clinic libraries. Each clinic includes numerous exam rooms, including procedure rooms. Clinics also feature in-house specialty clinics in the areas of obstetrics and gynecology, procedures, OMT and sports medicine, where residents work one-on-one with specialized faculty.

Established as the Family Medicine Residency's home in 1991, Aurora St. Luke's Family Practice Center serves the diverse blue-collar neighborhoods and suburbs of Milwaukee's south side.The clinic accepts six residents per year. Located on the Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center campus, the clinic's faculty and staff are dedicated to providing high quality, patient-centered care and personalized training for each resident. This site offers numerous amenities including our redesigned resident clinic lounge.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
  • Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
  • Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
  • Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
