Medical Copywriter
21GRAMS, a Real Chemistry Company
21GRAMS is an agency born to make healthcare more human - not just in our work, but in the way we conduct business, build client relationships, and treat each other. As part of Real Chemistry, we bring together strategy, creative, science, and innovation to create work that moves people and drives business.
We're looking for a Medical Copywriter who can bring together scientific fluency and creative instinct - someone who knows how to turn complex clinical information into clear, compelling, brand-building copy. This is not a traditional medical writer role. We're looking for someone with healthcare advertising experience who can concept, collaborate, and write across a range of promotional and scientific materials while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and brand voice.
Role Summary
The Medical Copywriter is responsible for developing medically sound, strategically sharp, and emotionally resonant copy across healthcare/pharma campaigns. This person will partner closely with Creative, Strategy, Account, Project Management, Editorial, and medical teams to bring ideas to life across multiple channels and deliverables.
The ideal candidate understands how to translate science into stories, can move fluidly between promotional copy and scientific content, and has experience working in an agency environment where deadlines are fast, standards are high, and collaboration is key.
What You'll Do
Write for healthcare/pharma advertising campaigns across HCP, patient, caregiver, and DTC audiences
Translate complex clinical data, mechanism of action, and product information into clear, engaging, on-brand messaging
Develop copy for a wide range of deliverables, including websites, digital banners, emails, sales materials, patient education, videos, social, and other omnichannel assets
Partner with an Art Director and broader creative team to develop integrated campaign concepts and executions
Ensure all copy aligns with brand strategy, marketing objectives, tone of voice, and audience needs
Work closely with Medical/Scientific leadership to ensure content is accurate, balanced, and compliant
Participate in strategic planning, internal brainstorms, and client meetings as needed
Present concepts internally and incorporate feedback thoughtfully and efficiently
Review and refine copy throughout the agency process for clarity, grammar, consistency, and accuracy
Collaborate with Editorial to resolve stylistic or grammatical concerns
Build a strong understanding of assigned brands, disease states, competitors, and the evolving market landscape
Proactively identify relevant medical, competitive, or regulatory updates that may impact messaging or tactical development
Bring a solutions-oriented mindset to projects and contribute to the overall quality of the work
What We're Looking For
2-4+ years of experience in healthcare/pharma advertising, medical communications, or a closely related agency environment
Experience writing within regulated categories, ideally with exposure to HCP and/or DTC promotional work
Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, copywriting craft, and brand voice development
Ability to balance creativity and scientific accuracy
Comfortable partnering with cross-functional teams including Creative, Account, PM, Editorial, and Medical
Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common research tools/platforms
Knowledge of or strong interest in science, medicine, and healthcare marketing
Nice to Have
Experience working across multiple products or disease states
Familiarity with MLR/regulatory review processes
Ability to contribute to both promotional initiatives and scientific communications
Curiosity about innovation in healthcare, audience behavior, and emerging creative formats
Why This Role
This is a great opportunity for a writer who loves the challenge of making complex science feel human, relevant, and creatively powerful. You'll work at the intersection of medical rigor and brand storytelling, helping shape work that is strategically grounded, emotionally intelligent, and deeply impactful.
