Job Description This position is in a healthcare Central Billing Office. The Payment Poster is responsible for monitoring, processing, and balancing all activities related to manual and electronic payment processing and posting. Must have a thorough knowledge of medical billing, revenue cycle process, and advanced understanding of how the billing operations are performed to produce proficiency and profitability. Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills are essential to this position. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Posting, verifying, and reconciling all payments and adjustments. Ability to understand Payment Posting Adjustments, Denials, Take-backs, and Over-payments. Daily and Monthly Balancing of Money and Payment Grid along with Reporting/Excel. Strict adherence to write-off/adjustment policies refund policies and other accounts receivable policies as required. Requires an ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while learning and retaining new or evolving information in an occasionally stressful environment. Effectively work in a team environment. Professionally communicate and maintain a cooperative working relationship with patients, staff, managers, and physicians. Demonstrate interest in the job and the company by following Company policies and operating procedures. Accept work assignments and supervision. Assist with special projects in the CBO or daily tasks as assigned by the manager(s). Process assigned cash receipts, lockboxes, electronic remits, adjustments, write-offs, and reversals daily as well as balancing batches. Preferred demonstrated knowledge of Managed Care remittances, EOBs, and adjustment processes. Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills. Call and/or mail correspondence to customers as necessary to update records. Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail when posting. Analytical ability to identify and communicate and underpayments based on your assigned payer. Identify and process refunds/credits as necessary. Understand and follow insurance fee schedules and contracts. Respect patient privacy by adhering to compliance regulations and CBO guidelines. Keep all information and records confidential and use them only for official purposes when necessary. QUALIFICATIONS Previous payment poster experience in healthcare setting Microsoft Excel experience and the ability to read/write onto spreadsheets on a general ledger Knowledge and understanding of proficient computer skills and can utilize office machines such as calculator, scanner, and printer. Solid data-entry skills; 10-key skill is a must, 40 wpm typing preferred. Customer service background with an ability to communicate to clients and clinics effectively regarding EOBs, A/R inquiries, knowledge of CMS billing guidelines. Ability to understand patient eligibility benefits and co-pay/co-insurance/deductible/OOP in-network/out-of-network language. High School Diploma or GED, preferred 3-year minimum in physician practice out-patient billing, insurance, and patient collections (preferably Gastroenterology), or cash posting. Comprehension of HIPAA, OSHA, and Fraud Waste and Abuse compliance guidelines. Experienced Greenway and/or eClinicalWorks EHR software user preferred, but not required.
