Staff Position Description

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner
Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures
Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital stats, history and reason for seeking care
Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
Schedules/confirms appointments
Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
May perform venipuncture
Participates in clinical division meetings
Requirements Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure: BLS through the American Heart Association
Must meet one of the following criteria for Medical Assistant:
- Has attended a medical assistant training program accredited by one of the following:
- The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools;
- If your Medical Assistant program was not accredited by one of the above agencies, you will need to have a Medical Assistant Certification issued by one of the following. If needed, we will assist you in obtaining a CCMA certification.
- National Healthcareer Association: CCMA
- American Medical Technologist: RMA
- American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA
- National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA
- American Medical Certification Association: CMAC
- Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States
- Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.

Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology
Preferences
Experience: One to two years' experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting

Work Requirements
Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors
Incumbent must be capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds
Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing
Capable of sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone
