Description of Primary Duties
GENERAL FUNCTION
Gain hands-on experience in public media while building practical skills in digital storytelling, visual design, and audience engagement. This role supports both marketing and community engagement efforts through creative content development across social media, digital platforms, and print materials.
KSMU Radio and Ozarks Public Television are seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented work study student to serve as a Social Media Assistant. This role supports the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator in audience growth and engagement by helping manage and expand the stations' social media presence. The ideal candidate is interested in digital marketing, storytelling, graphic design, and community engagement and is comfortable creating content across multiple platforms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Social Media Engagement & Analytics
    • Maintain and update KSMU and OPT social media platforms with timely, engaging content.
    • Schedule posts and ensure consistent activity across channels.
    • Monitor comments, messages, and engagement, and respond appropriately.
    • Track trends and help identify content opportunities aligned with audience interests to increase followers and engagement
    • Monitor performance metrics and assist in tracking engagement and reach.
  2. Content Creation
    • Design graphics for digital and print materials; social media, digital promotions, email campaigns, media kits, web content, sponsorship materials, flyers, posters, event signage, etc.
    • Ensure all content aligns with KSMU and OPT brand standards and visual identity while maintaining consistency across platforms, campaigns, and materials.
    • Write captions and copy that promotes programming, events, and initiatives.
    • Maintain organized files of design assets, templates, and completed projects
    • Capture photos and video at events when needed.
  3. Campaign & Event Support
    • Support promotion of fundraising campaigns, station initiatives, and community events.
    • Work with other teams to highlight local programming, campaigns and stories.
    • Assist with live or real-time event coverage when applicable.
  4. Inclusive Engagement
    • Help foster an accessible, inclusive and welcoming presence that reflects diverse communities and perspectives.
  5. Other Duties
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support marketing and engagement goals.
