Role Overview:
The IEDC Social Media Specialist is responsible for growing the IEDC social community and boosting engagement with authentic content that helps capture, enrich and promote the Indiana story.
Salary:
The salary range for this position is $56,770 -$58,000, commensurate with education and work experience.
A Day in the Life:
  • Develop a vision, strategy and calendar for social content across multiple platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter (X), Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Create quality, error-free, original social media content across platforms
  • Stay appraised of the State, IEDC and Secretary of Commerce news to share in a consistent rhythm
  • Keep up with the latest social media best practices, emerging trends and tools to elevate IEDC and its partners across social communities
  • Schedule and track posts/photos/video using Meltwater and Monday
  • Under the direction of IEDC Marketing and Communications leaders, monitor and respond to direct messages, public postings and other engagement opportunities as appropriate
  • Gather and share a scorecard of social media efforts across multiple platforms for key metrics (reach, impressions, gained followers etc.)
  • Study trends across the economic development landscape to proactively recommend new social themes and campaigns
  • Research and post insights and comparative reports (e.g. "Top 5 US states for economic development")
  • Understand the drivers of social reach in economic development through data insights and analytics, and use those insights to grow engagement on key social channels such as LinkedIn
  • Create video content and imagery to enhance social script
  • Travel within Indiana as needed to cover/report on IEDC events and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need for Success:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field
  • Dedication to ongoing continuing education and growth mindset

Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years' professional experience in social media or digital content writing (internship experience will be considered)
  • Prior experience designing graphics in Canva or similar application
  • Project management experience as it relates to relevant marketing activities
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment as it relates to the state and key stakeholders

Knowledge of:
  • Core marketing fundamentals (social, digital, creative)
  • American English grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.; AP Style helpful
  • IEDC's role in economic development and its importance to the State of Indiana
  • Social relationship building and customer retention strategies
  • Leveraging the social effect and knowledge of social communities
  • Monday, Asana, ClickUp, or other project management tools
  • Meltwater, Sprout Social, Google Analytics or other social listening tools
  • Graphic design using Canva or Adobe InDesign or a drive to learn
  • A talent for photography and/or video editing/production or a drive to learn

Fluency In:
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Brevity
  • Performance Reporting (Insights and Data Analytics)

Ability to:
  • Travel as necessary with the Secretary of Commerce, primarily in-state, to capture key digital content
  • Execute multiple projects simultaneously at a high level within tight deadlines
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Interact and communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Collaborate with IEDC staff members, other government agencies, economic development organizations and businesses
