Job description


The Mechanic Shop Helper supports the daily operations of the equipment shop by assisting with maintenance, repairs, and organization of tools, equipment, and vehicles. This hands-on role is ideal for someone mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a team environment.
You will work closely with mechanics and other team members to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently while maintaining a clean, organized workspace. A proactive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed are key to success in this role.
Salary Range: $35,000 - $45,000
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with diagnosing and repairing small engines and outdoor power equipment (gas, electric, or pneumatic).
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Test equipment to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Communicate with supervisors and operators to clarify issues and recommend preventative maintenance practices.
  • Maintain an organized workspace and assist with inventory tracking of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Support overall shop and facility cleanliness and upkeep.
  • Complete repair documentation, including work orders, parts usage, and time tracking.
  • Assist with equipment and tool delivery as needed.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

Experience
  • Entry-level position; mechanical aptitude preferred

Skills & Requirements
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and willingness to learn
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

  • Combination of standing, walking, and sitting; up to 75% of the workday may be outdoors on construction sites

  • Hearing and communication ability for in-person, phone, and radio use
