POSITION SUMMARY

This position will provide field based technical support to Territory Business Managers in the Dakotas, Upper Midwest (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota) and parts of Nebraska. This support will consist of direct interaction with customers, account and call planning, and influencing key Consulting Nutritionists in the region. Additional responsibilities may include field research support, Learning and Development support in onboarding/training new sales team members, and collaborating with marketing regarding technical messaging.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing technical expertise in the area of cattle performance enhancement and nutrition in the aligned geographical areas
  • Thoroughly understanding the data available to support cattle performance enhancement technologies.
  • Meeting regularly with key opinion leaders and beef value chain leadership to assure successful implementation of performance enhancement technologies.
  • Providing sound technical advice on routine inquiries and acting as a resource to assist other team members with inquiries.
  • Collaborating and building strong partnerships with the U.S. Zoetis Beef Sales Team to develop and execute the Beef Operations Plan.
  • Partnering with field colleagues to develop appropriate strategies that focus efforts on targeted accounts critical to the success of the business unit.
  • In collaboration with sales teammates, organizing the array of territory responsibilities, activities, and information to create a territory action plan designed to achieve objectives.
  • Collaborating with Research and Development colleagues on research using performance enhancement technologies
  • Working with field sales to create, maintain and execute a customer-focused business development plan that clearly identifies current and future growth opportunities and allocates expense budget and resources for all high potential customers.
  • Contributing to team selling efforts by planning call cycles with others to maximize the use of the team's time and resources and ensuring appropriate account follow-up.
  • Utilizing excellent presentation skills and appropriate tools (PowerPoint) to provide technical training and education to both Zoetis colleagues and external audiences.
  • Providing technical training and education to colleagues within Zoetis with an emphasis on application of Synovex implants and related production management technologies.
  • Advising and assisting Learning and Development on the technical content of training programs, as required.
  • Providing specialty support to other Areas or businesses as directed by management.
  • Building and maintaining relationships and influence with key industry leaders including nutritionists, meat scientists, veterinarians, extension and university personnel, packing plant employees and other consultants to our customer base.
  • Participating, as required, on special projects and tactical implementation that aligns with key stakeholders to effectively position products and the portfolio (e.g., reviewing sales material, participating on new product launch teams, providing assistance and support to U.S. Drug Safety and others).
  • Providing accurate and timely documentation of activities and customer interactions to specified management levels.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Ruminant Nutrition
  • Preferred Three (3) years post doctoral experience in the cattle industry, academia, research or with a feed company.
  • Masters level or equivalent knowledge of meat science is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working with the dairy calf industry is beneficial.
  • Research experience, published scientific papers is desirable
  • Extensive knowledge of Zoetis products and the animal health industry or ability to learn quickly
  • Proficiency in Spanish is not necessary but would be useful

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have strong communication skills, strong problem solving skills, ability to work in a team environment and ability to rapidly build confidence from the customer point of view.
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office and the ability to learn Zoetis' internal systems)

  • Proven record of accomplishments, demonstrating successful personal and professional management, strategy execution experience and leadership
  • Ability to think and act strategically
  • Ability to exercise good judgment; make thoughtful and fair decisions based on relevant information
  • Ability to interact with and influence Senior Management, peers, and other functional groups

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • The position will require a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing to travel extensively, 60-70% of weeknights out
