Job Summary:

The Packaging Maintenance Technician conducts machine set-up, troubleshooting, repairs and performs preventative maintenance service on all packaging related equipment. They are responsible for keeping the packaging lines and all related production support equipment running to its full potential with a minimum amount of downtime. This position may require working night shifts and weekends.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Specifically, the responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following activities.Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  • Install and maintain packaging equipment

  • Perform daily inspection of packaging lines

  • Maintain spare parts inventory

  • Perform weekly, monthly and yearly PMs (preventive maintenance) on packaging equipment

  • Rebuild parts as needed

  • Diagnose, troubleshooting and repair packaging equipment related problems such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and electronic

  • Documenting completed task by daily pass downs, recording into x4 e-maintenance software and conducting a shift turnover

  • Provide emergency unscheduled repairs of packaging equipment as needed

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals

  • Complete all required safety training courses

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and other tools to complete repairs

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • High School diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as a maintenance mechanic.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals pertaining to electrical, conduit, wiring, PLCs, and instrumentation, interpret plans, drawings, prints and schematics, operating manuals, and repair manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries from different departments and management. Ability to communicate and present information effectively.

  • Must be able to utilize lock out/tag out and repair all packaging machinery. Forklift, hand pallet jack, elevated man-lift, hand tools, machine tools.

  • Ability to operate and use a PC computer, proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs. Ability to use HR online systems to complete job-related tasks including time clocking software to clock time and approve your timecard.

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work indoors and out, in nearly every type of facility on the company's premises. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures, gases, cleaning caustic and acid, solvents, glue, oil, grease, sealants. Tasks may require working from a ladder or elevated platform and in confined spaces. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is low to loud depending on what part of the facility the employee is working in. Employee may be required to work in varying climates such as hot temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and refrigerated environments down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
