General Description of Position
The Meat Manager is the most senior level position in the Meat Department. This role ensures the store's meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Manager is responsible for growing and maintaining the store's meat program and manages all activities of the department including service, merchandising and business management, product handling and presentation, scheduling, ordering, receiving, and inventory control standards. This position is responsible for staff training development, setting work schedules, and ensuring all meat department members are operating in a safe, productive manner. The Meat Manager is a key member of the organization maintaining a continuous focus on optimizing customer experience, sales, and efficiencies in their department and store.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads the performance of the meat department to achieve and exceed business metric goals.
  • Completes daily grinding logs.
  • Exceeds budgets of profitability, sales and distribution.
  • Strategically orders and controls inventory.
  • Sets and manages all department schedules.
  • Directs any price changes.
  • Effectively carries out product ordering, merchandising, productivity and maintaining control of shrink to meet company and business unit goals.
  • Sets and executes all work priorities and directs the assignment of individual tasks within the meat department including other Meat Cutters, Shift Leads and Clerks.
  • Enforces meat policies and procedures within assigned store.
  • Trains and supervises all meat department personnel.
  • Works with the District Manager and Store Manager to provide input into policies and procedures for the meat department.
  • Enforces all policies and procedures within assigned store.
  • Uses knives and power equipment, cuts and/or packages authorized beef, pork and poultry items according to Leevers policies and procedures.
  • Wraps, weighs and prices cuts of meat.
  • Labels packages according to COOL, USDA and Leevers standards.
  • Ensures that displays and case signs are updated appropriately, and that meat is merchandised and presented to maximize sales.
  • Maintains proper date rotation for dated and undated products per Leevers policy, both in the display case and in the storage coolers.

  • Prepares and places meat cuts and products in the display counter according to Leevers procedures so they will appear attractive and appealing to the customers.
  • Receives, inspects, and stores meat upon delivery, to maintain cold chain and ensures meat quality.
  • Ensures excellent sanitation and quality standards are met daily which adhere to Leevers policy.
  • Follows and executes all Leevers policies and procedures which includes but is not limited to: COOL, Food Safety, Sanitation, Meat/Produce Scale operation, Mark Downs, Inventory Processes, Meat POG's, Meat Cutter Resource Manual, Daily Manager Signoff and Meat Cutting List.
  • Protects company property, funds and merchandise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This is a management position. This position has the authority to make decisions concerning hiring, terminations, demotions, promotions, or otherwise take tangible employment actions.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring all members of the Meat Department are adequately trained and operating under Leevers company standards.

Position Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*Bi-Lingual preferred
  • Company work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performance
  • Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is desired.
  • Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store, as needed with little or no advanced notice
  • Excellent customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Must adhere to a uniform dress code

Education and Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

  • 7+ years of experience safely using manual pallet jacks, hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to knives, wrappers, scales, slicers, cubing machine, and power saw (where certified to cut meat) (Preferred)
  • Successful completion of Leevers Meat Cutter Training Program within six months

Technical Skills
  • Ability to operate and understand the meat scale, meat saw, slicer, grinder, scale

  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear
  • Reach, bend, twist, balance, bend forward, stoop or walk for the majority of the time on duty.
  • Lift and transport various objects weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 100 pounds

  • Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance
  • Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp and use sawing motions for extended periods of time

Environmental Conditions
  • This position is performed primarily in a meat cutting room, where the temperature ranges from 38-45 degrees Fahrenheit continuously.
  • Employees must be able to work in a temperature controlled (cold) environment for extended periods of time.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
