Job description

Hourly Rate: $29.56
JOB SUMMARY: Provide security for court complex building in Paw Paw and South Haven.
Must be MCOLES Certified or Certifiable.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Graduate of the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy. MCOLES certified or certifiable.
  3. Citizen of the United States.
  4. Previous experience as a law enforcement officer. Ability to use firearms.
  5. Knowledge of modem law enforcement practices and procedures.
  6. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and access to dependable transportation (satisfactory driving record required).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following (these examples do not include all the tasks in which the employee may be expected to perform).
  2. Enforce regulations and preserve public peace for Van Buren County residents.
  3. Investigate criminal and traffic offenses in accordance with the Michigan penal code and traffic statutes. Apprehend violators.
  4. Maintain contact with the Sheriffs department, acknowledge receipt of dispatches, and respond to emergency situations.
  5. Provide accurate information for the preparation of statistical reports and for the prosecution of offenders.
  6. Accompany inmates to court for arraignments, sentencing, and motions.
  7. Appear and/or testify in civil, criminal, and/or traffic litigation cases.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history, and drug screen.  Applicant must complete County application form. Must be MCOLES Certified or Certifiable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Reports:              None

Supervision Given:        Not applicable.
Reports To:                   Work is performed under the general direction of the Sheriff’s Department Administration. The court security officer assists the Prosecuting Attorney's Office for authorization of charges and the signing of warrants. The court security officer reports to the head court security deputy and judges to coordinate daily security assignments.
WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May require daily travel to locations that are not barrier free. May be required to work evenings or weekends.
Ability to walk, stand, and run for extended periods of time.
Pre-employment physical, drug screening, and comprehension exam required.
