Position Summary
Assist in ensuring the public safety of the Albuquerque International Sunport by monitoring the airport security systems; operate a multi-line, multi function touch screen telephone system; respond to notifications of aircraft incidents/accidents, security incidents, criminal activities and mechanical/janitorial problems and dispatch to appropriate police, operations or maintenance personnel.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Essential and Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  1. Monitor the airport's crash, fire and rescue network and dispatch operations and police personnel in response to aircraft mishaps.
  2. Operate a multi-line, multi function touch screen telephone system interfacing numerous telephone lines, several radio frequencies and a terminal-wide public address system.
  3. Monitor the airport's security systems (CCTV and alarms) and dispatch police personnel to resolve security incidents/alarms, criminal activities and emergency medical situations. Record video tapes regarding security issues.
  4. Maintain a complete record of all police activities using the airport's computer aided dispatching program. Relay police and other emergency calls/information to the police sergeants for dispatch of police officers.
  5. Receive and process police officer requests for National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and New Mexico Law Enforcement, Telecommunications System (NMLETS) computer inquiries.
  6. Update flight information as received from airlines for various changes in scheduled flights; make necessary changes to the Flight Information Display System and Baggage Information Display System.
  7. Monitor matrix security alarm system to determine the nature, location and priority of alarms and relay this critical information to Law Enforcement and/or Terminal and Airfield Maintenance for resolution.
  8. Operate computerized paging system for locating and paging passengers and employees; relay information regarding Airfield operations including closures and emergencies to Airport tenants and employees.
  9. Control manual access to remote gates and doors; maintain control of keys to non-secure areas for authorized personnel.
  10. Receive, catalog, tag and log items turned in to lost and found. Control items for the required 90-day hold period and dispose according to city Ordinance.
  11. Receive incoming telephone calls; respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  12. Relay pertinent information received regarding incidents/accidents at the airport to members of the supervisory/senior staff, receive calls regarding maintenance issues and submit applicable work orders to maintenance staff as necessary.
  13. Operate a variety of communication systems; access and transmit information from computer systems as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of college level course work in general studies; and
Three (3) years of experience in any of the following areas:
  • radio operations
  • computer operations
  • switchboard operations
  • data entry
One (1) year of processing public service calls is preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Must pass Drug Test, Hearing Test and Background check.
Possession of a NCIC Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Working Conditions
Environmental:
Operations center environment; exposure to computer screens; work in confined spaces.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require sitting for prolonged periods; extensive use of computer keyboard, mouse and monitor.
