Description
Position Description:
The Classroom Teacher Assistant is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Denver. The Teacher Assistant is hired by and directly accountable to the principal and preschool director(s), and is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of Good Shepherd Catholic School, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. The Teacher Assistant cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education and helps build a Catholic culture in the school, ordered towards discipleship.
The Teacher Assistant has a passion for:
  • Sharing the person of Jesus Christ, the Logos, with students every day through his/her teaching and personal life witness.
  • Assist in teaching curriculum from the heart of the Church to help form students in a Christian way of seeing reality (Catholic worldview).
  • Supporting students in the formation of their sacramental imaginations. To see the way God:
Designed reality through science and ordered it logically through math Moved and worked through human history Embedded beauty in art and music Gave us our physical bodies to grow in strength and be of service to others Desires us to meet the person of Jesus and his Church through catechesis and theology
Requirements
Competencies:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate:
  • Evangelical zeal and apostolic mindset
  • A self-starter attitude and ability to enthusiastically motivate people
  • Ability to teach multiple age levels
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate level of IT literacy, with a willingness to learn new technologies
  • Attention to detail and organization, especially in record keeping
  • Strong teamwork skills

Qualifications:
Required
  • Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
  • A love for children of all ages and commitment to their academic, spiritual, moral, and social growth and development
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred
  • 2 years' experience as a classroom assistant, or equivalent
  • Experience working as part of a team and receiving direction
  • Experience in working with young children
