Job description


If you are a results-driven supply chain leader passionate about driving operational excellence and leading high-performing teams, Emerson has an opportunity for you! Based at our Elk River, MN location, as the Materials Manager you will lead the planning and coordination of purchasing, inventory control, and scheduling activities while serving as a key contributor to the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process. Leveraging our ERP system, you will ensure the effective management of materials to meet customer demand, optimize inventory levels, and support Operations and MRO requirements. Working collaboratively across functions, you will plan, schedule, and monitor the acquisition and disposition of materials to deliver exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and business performance.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Manage and Provide Leadership - Manages, trains, and provides leadership, including communication, coaching, timely performance feedback, recruitment, corrective discipline and employee development.
  • Supervise - Assures that the department personnel are providing the following:
    • Source of Supply - Coordinates with Commodity Manager in utilizing strategic sources; identifies, negotiates, and maintains other sources as needed to meet manufacturing schedules.
    • SIOP - Assist in developing SIOP plan. Manage the flow of material to assure that the plan is realized.
    • Forecast - Maintain forecast in ERP system as developed in SIOP process
    • Master Schedule - Responsible for the master schedule to ensure that customer requirements are met by achieving 95% promise date service level.
    • Planning - Responsible for a materials and production plan to support the master schedule that is consistent with required lead times.
    • Material Availability - Assures material availability to support the manufacturing process.
    • Liaison Between Suppliers and Company - Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and customers. Supports supplier base management and certified supplier initiatives.
    • Manage Cash Flow - Emerson supplier payment terms policy is followed
    • Negotiate Costs - assures that costs are managed and controlled
    • Maintain Accurate Database - Assures accurate ERP database: costs, lead-time, usage, transactions, cycle counts, etc.
  • Budget - Prepares and submits an annual budget, revises as necessary and operates the department within approved budget limits and expectations.
  • Inventory Management - Effectively manages raw material and piece parts to meet or exceed inventory turn objectives.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in purchasing, production control, materials management, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to support materials planning, inventory management, and purchasing activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Experience using Oracle ERP systems to support purchasing, materials management, inventory control, and planning activities.
  • Three (3) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience within a manufacturing, supply chain, or materials management environment
