Direct Materials Buyer – Industrial Air Systems

A day in the role

Morning starts by reviewing purchase requisitions and confirming priorities against production schedules. You connect with suppliers to align on pricing, availability, and deliveries. Quotes are analyzed and negotiated so every order lands on the best possible terms. Throughout the day, you enter and manage purchase orders—covering OE, AM, and stock across multiple brands, including fabrication and buyout items—while tracking supplier schedules to keep materials flowing on time. As shipments arrive, you verify receipts against orders and quickly resolve discrepancies. You also partner with stakeholders to refine purchasing strategies that reduce cost and simplify processes, all while maintaining clear, positive communication.

What you’ll take ownership of
  • Source equipment, materials, fabrication, and services; identify, onboard, and manage suppliers.
  • Review requisitions; collaborate with vendors for price, lead time, and delivery commitments.
  • Evaluate quotes against requirements and budget; negotiate and place purchase orders.
  • Confirm receipts match POs; resolve shipment issues with suppliers.
  • Support new purchasing strategies that drive ongoing cost reductions and process simplification.
  • Create POs for OE, AM, and stock across multiple brands, including fabrication and buyout items.
  • Assist with min/max setup and updates for stock and raw materials.
  • Update commodity pricing in databases under management direction.
  • Monitor supplier schedules and expedite to maximize on‑time delivery performance.
  • Ensure all procured items meet PO due dates through proactive follow‑up.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Your background
  • 7+ years of purchasing experience in subcontract, manufacturing, or project environments for industrial manufacturing or custom‑engineered products.
  • Associate degree in supply chain management or business administration preferred.
  • Deep understanding of supply chain management; skilled in sourcing and vendor management.
  • Strong data gathering and analysis capabilities.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.
  • Sound judgment, decision‑making, and leadership traits.
  • Self‑directed, highly motivated, and customer‑focused.
  • Excellent analytical and multi‑project management skills.
  • Exceptional negotiation abilities.
