BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P VM MATERIALS MANAGEMENT Department of the P SUPPORT SERVICES Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)

JOB FUNCTION:

Coordinate and analyze material and equipment to assure proper levels of inventory are maintained at an optimum level of operating efficiency and cost effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Determines proper stock levels and evaluates advance material requirements, analyzes material utilization and cost, reviews purchase requisitions and stock transfers.
  • Advises operating personnel on inventory policies and procedures. Acts as liaison with Engineering, Accounting, and Operating Departments pertaining to materials.
  • Analyzes, recommends, and provides estimated purchase quantities for items to be considered for blanket and consignment orders. Administers blanket and consignment orders, determines Vendor production requirements, monitors vendor local stock levels, and makes releases for delivery.
  • Expedites stockouts or shortage problems, communicates information from Buyer/Vendor to concerned parties, researches alternate sources and substitutes.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to replenishment formulas and order codes; determines appropriate replenishment formula and order codes assigned to each item; implements and monitors changes.
  • Evaluates slow moving materials and equipment and submits recommendations for obsolescence and/or disposal.
  • Provides statistical and graphic reports on inventory performance; assists in directing and providing input into evaluation of the clerical staff work. Assists in preparation and monitoring of Division operating forecast.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the principles of materials management or related technical field normally acquired through college level courses or the equivalent in training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of materials handling policies, procedures, budgeting, and general company procedures.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (ie. spreadsheets, word processing, graphics applications, etc.).

Skills Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and public sector.
  • Analytical, organizational, and conceptual skills to handle various projects and programs.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade groups or individuals.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

Experience Requirements

  • Several years (3-5) experience with materials management or closely related field.
