Job description

As Raw Material Manager, you are responsible for leading the raw material function to support the success of Millport, AL mill and are accountable for all raw material log purchases and sales, monitoring mill residual sales and flows.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the development and execution of a sustainable raw material sourcing plan for the mill. The sourcing plans will be developed in conjunction with the Southern Area raw material strategy. 

  • Be a key working member and leader in the Mississippi/Alabama Raw Material Team, and a key member of the Millport mill management team

  • Maintain knowledge of all raw material sourcing increments and suppliers for stumpage and gate-wood purchases

  • Develop working knowledge of the mill's production processes and products (customers) and understand the key raw material attributes which impact mill margins

  • Develop and manage the raw material sources and log inventory over the annual cycle to maximize mill margins

  • Manage residual sales

  • Be responsible for leading and developing a team of Raw Material Representatives

  • Utilize skills including situational management, coaching, counseling, facilitating, performance appraisal and development, team building and time management skills as well as teaching/developing technical skills of team members

  • Enhance/build business relationships throughout the raw material supply chain

  • Manage Forest Certification

  • Associate's degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field, and at least 5 years equivalent job experience. Bachelors degree in Forestry or related field is preferred

  • Demonstrated excellence or experience in all procurement functional areas is expected

  • Safety leader and role model

  • Demonstrated team player, and possesses the ability to participate and engage as a member of the Southern Area Raw Material leadership team and the Millport mill management team

  • Knowledge of key raw material components which impact mill margins 

  • Knowledge of mill residual components and impact to mill margins

  • Previous experience in: Stumpage appraisal and purchases, negotiating stumpage and gate-wood / outside purchases, valuation of third-party products, timber cruising and cruise analysis

  • Knowledge of open market supply dynamics; Understanding of customer needs

  • Possesses budget and planning skills

  • Knowledge of financial, and cost analysis

  • Knowledge of logging and basic lumber manufacturing

  • Ability to lead and or work with a diverse team of people

  • Ability to successfully lead initiatives that maximize wood products and shareholder value

  • Ability to work across organizational/functional boundaries effectively

  • Excellent communication, time management and selling/persuasion skills

  • Excellent computer skills with ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office software as well as internal systems

  • Understand the accounting systems and statements utilized in raw materials

What We Offer:

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $98,811-$148,217 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Benefits: When you join our team, you and your dependents will be offered coverage under our comprehensive employee benefits plan, which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance. We offer a pre-tax Healthb Savings Account option which includes a company contribution. Other benefit options are also available such as voluntary Long-Term Care and Employee Assistance Programs. Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
