Job Description Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Business Analytics Analyst with a balance of technical data skills and strong business acumen. This role requires someone who can engage directly with Finance, Sales, Operations, and Executive Leadership to understand what the business needs - and then use hands-on SQL skills and familiarity with the Microsoft BI stack to investigate, validate, and deliver reliable analytical solutions.

The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver who can look at a report, identify when something doesn't look right, trace it back to the source, and explain it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. This is not a pure engineering role, nor a pure business analyst role - it requires someone who is equally comfortable writing a complex SQL query and presenting findings to a VP. Experience in the transportation and logistics industry is preferred, as the role involves working with data related to revenue and billing, driver and fleet operations, customer and sales performance, and on-time delivery metrics.

Critical Job Functions:

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Sales, Operations, and Executive Leadership to understand business questions, gather reporting requirements, and translate operational needs into analytical solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and the analytics team, ensuring alignment on priorities, data definitions, and deliverables.
  • Investigate data discrepancies and anomalies, identify root causes, and communicate findings and recommended actions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Establish, document, and maintain data definitions, business rules, and metric calculations to formalize institutional knowledge and ensure consistent reporting across the organization.

Data Analysis & SQL Development

  • Write and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and views against SQL Server databases to support reporting, root cause analysis, and business investigations.
  • Interpret and validate data models and ETL processes to ensure business logic is accurately represented and data quality issues are identified and resolved.
  • Apply solid understanding of data warehousing concepts (star and snowflake schemas, dimensional modeling) to guide solution design and support the analytics team.
  • Collaborate with the analytics team to ensure data pipelines and models reliably support downstream reporting and analytical needs.

Reporting & Data Quality

  • Develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that deliver clear, accurate, and actionable insights across revenue, fleet operations, customer data, and service performance.
  • Implement data quality checks and monitoring to maintain the accuracy and reliability of reporting outputs.
  • Support the documentation of data governance standards, business definitions, and reporting logic to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge and improve organizational data literacy.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members on analytical best practices, SQL development, and business requirements documentation.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or BI developer role with demonstrated ability to connect business processes to data outcomes.
  • Strong SQL proficiency: ability to write, interpret, and troubleshoot queries for data extraction, validation, and analysis on SQL Server databases.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI for report and dashboard development, including data modeling and DAX calculations.
  • Familiarity with ETL concepts and the ability to review, validate, and document data pipeline logic.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a track record of investigating data issues and identifying root causes.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, document, and translate business requirements into reliable data and reporting solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the transportation, logistics, or supply chain industry (e.g., familiarity with revenue and billing processes, fleet or driver operations, customer service metrics, or on-time delivery performance data).
  • Hands-on experience with SSAS tabular models, including DAX and semantic model design.
  • Experience with SSIS or similar ETL tooling for data integration and pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of Azure data services (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Analysis Services, Microsoft Fabric).
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data analysis or automation.
  • Background or coursework in statistics, data science, or operations research.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary.
  • Paid Time Off and paid holidays.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • Life insurance and 401(k).
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact projects in a data-driven, rapidly growing organization.
  • Professional growth in Microsoft technologies and industry-specific analytics.
