Job Summary:
Provides support to all students enrolled in LMC Math courses.
Essential Functions:
  1. Provides learning assistance and tutoring for math students in co-requisite and college level math courses.
  2. Teach co-requisite Mathematics Lab courses as assigned.
  3. Develop and host workshops in partnership with math faculty.
  4. Serve as a resource to students as they navigate guided self-placement model in math.
  5. Serve as a resource to students as they navigate distance education math courses.
  6. Assist students needing math remediation using Aleks (or similar software).

Other Duties:
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Accountabilities:
Under the general supervision of the Director, Math Lab, works as a team member to provide quality instruction and assistance to mathematics students at Lake Michigan College. Responsible for supporting a positive, compassionate, and professional learning environment that encourages small group learning. This position provides services requiring an on-campus presence. Travel to regional campuses may be required.
Job Specifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in mathematics or related field (such as math education, engineering, or physics) required. Previous tutoring or teaching experience in mathematics and/or college success skills preferred. Strong communication skills and commitment to remaining current in transitional studies and college-level math pedagogy is required. Experience working with a diverse student body preferred.
Hiring Range:
$21.75 per hour
Special Instructions to Applicants:
The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interested in teaching in the future as an (part-time) adjunct instructor for one of our departments. The Instructor Pools are always open for applications. However, this does not mean that we have an immediate opening in the division. The Adjunct Instructor Pools function as a way for department chairs to view applicant materials in advance of a need and determine if the applicant will be approved or not approved to be added to their pool of eligible applicants. Should a part-time instructional need arise in each department, the department chair will look first at the approved applicants to see if anyone matches our needs, in which case they may make contact to schedule an interview.
Adjunct faculty are not employed directly by Lake Michigan College, with a few exceptions based on MSPERS retirement program. All others are employed through Edustaff, LLC. If you are selected for one of these roles, you will be required to complete Edustaff's employment application and on-boarding processes.
