Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in the English language.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform semi-skilled and/or skilled repairs of school district facilities/property and ground maintenance.
  • Valid Florida drivers license, and within one (1) year obtain a CDL Class A or B drivers license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to return to work for unscheduled hours in an emergency and/or work overtime when necessary.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to assist and/or deliver basic work related instruction to entry or basic skill level employees.
  • Successful completion of related coursework equivalent to 240 hours or 12 college credits.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of State, Federal, and other applicable building codes, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal
To perform and oversee maintenance and repair services to School District property in a safe and effective manner.

Area Foreman or designated Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assesses the need for and performs maintenance and repairs as necessary.
  • Participates in maintaining a safe and clean workplace.
  • Responsible for all tools, equipment, etc. personally assigned.
  • Completes reports and paperwork as required.
  • Performs routine duties involving the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
  • Complies with applicable safety procedures and codes.
  • Participates in all safety training and related training activities as directed.
  • Serves on 24 hour emergency duty call as assigned.
  • Assists and/or delivers basic work related instruction to entry or basic skill level employees.
  • Operates School District owned vehicles as necessary.
  • Recommends the purchase of necessary supplies and equipment to the Supervisor.
  • Prepares cost estimates on small repair and alteration jobs.
  • Serves as a group/team leader as necessary.
  • Has a general knowledge of all district needed trade areas and will complete and supervise any area of maintenance to which assigned.
  • Participates in the supervising of maintenance department inventory.
  • Provides input into the planning and budgeting activities of the maintenance department.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the Area Maintenance Foreman in his absence.
  • Participates as part of the leadership team for quality improvement activities of the maintenance department.
  • Assumes the responsibility to report for evacuation shelter support in the event of an emergency and any other duties assigned during an emergency evacuation.
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent, or the board.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects. Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Calendar Months: 12 Month
Salary Schedule: Non-Instructional (Bargaining) Pay Grade: 43
Salary and Benefits as determined and approved annually by Hendry County School Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policies for evaluation of administrative personnel.
