WORK WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday (occasional evening and weekend requirements for on-call emergencies on a rotating basis)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all Building Automation Systems throughout Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Works closely with operators and other field personnel to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Building Automation Systems. Performs highly skilled technical work involving maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and building automation systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC systems, equipment, and fixtures;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps;
  • Working knowledge of computers and electronic hardware, software, and programming;
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on building automation systems;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Five years of experience directly related to the field of building automation and control, energy management, and large-scale, multi-building HVAC systems.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements;
  • Within 12 months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates Degree or technical school training in related field;
  • Certification in Lon Works, BacNet, and/or Tridium AX Architecture;
  • Experience with Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Trane, and/or other building automation systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with building automation systems, materials, equipment, and fixtures.
  2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to energy management and HVAC.
  3. Troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
  4. Replaces faulty or defective building automation equipment and systems.
  5. Monitors and adjusts building automation software to ensure efficient operation equipment and compliance with energy policies.
  6. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
  7. Adheres to laws, regulations, and requirements set forth in the WCPSS Safety procedures/policies.
  8. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintains a safe work environment.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses a variety of equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
