The Southern District YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and service-oriented Marketing Manager to tell the YMCA story and strengthen engagement throughout our community.
This position is ideal for an experienced marketing manager with the expertise and initiative to lead marketing efforts, drive strategic priorities, and hold ownership of organization-wide marketing initiatives. Reporting to senior leadership, the Marketing Manager serves as the organization's primary marketing professional, leading the execution of marketing and communication initiatives while contributing to broader organizational goals.
The ideal candidate is a positive, collaborative marketing leader who demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to build strong relationships across the organization and community. This individual is a strategic and creative problem-solver who can identify opportunities, navigate challenges, and develop innovative approaches to promote programs as well as track and communicate community impact. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and execute the organization's overall marketing strategy.
  • Create annual marketing plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Conduct market research to identify target audiences, growth opportunities, and marketing priorities that will increase membership, program participation, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Evaluate market trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Measure success of strategies through key performance indicators (KPIs).

Marketing & Communications:
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute integrated marketing campaigns and community initiatives that promote YMCA membership, childcare, summer camp, fundraising, events, and community impact.
  • Create & execute compelling written and visual content for print, digital, email, website, and social media platforms.
  • Oversee the YMCA's social media channels by developing content calendars, publishing content, monitoring engagement, and responding appropriately to inquiries.
  • Capture high-quality photography and video that showcases YMCA programs, events, staff, volunteers, members, and community impact.
  • Protect and strengthen the YMCA brand by ensuring consistency across all communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Evaluate marketing campaign performance and recommend improvements based on data, trends, and organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop marketing strategies that support program growth, member engagement, and fundraising efforts.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events, meetings, and activities, some occurring outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends as required.

Website & Digital Marketing:
  • Maintain and update website content, event listings, schedules, and program information.
  • Coordinate email marketing campaigns and recurring e-newsletters.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate digital advertising campaigns and online engagement initiatives.
  • Analyze website traffic, email performance, social media engagement, and digital marketing metrics to evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Collaboration & Organizational Support:
  • Partner with department leaders to develop marketing plans that support membership growth, program enrollment, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Lead the planning and marketing of annual events, campaigns, and special initiatives.
  • Collect member testimonials and impact stories that demonstrate the YMCA's mission.
  • Drive volunteer recognition, Annual Campaign communications, and community outreach strategies.
  • Manage Y-Gear merchandise inventory and coordinate the ordering, organization, and distribution of promotional materials to support membership, program, events, fundraising, and community engagement efforts.
  • Maintain marketing assets, photo libraries, and communication resources.

Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Provide leadership for marketing initiatives by coordinating cross-functional projects, directing marketing activities, and managing volunteers, interns, contractors, or other personnel supporting marketing initiatives or events.
  • Serve as a collaborative marketing resource for staff across the association.
  • Build positive working relationships with staff, members, volunteers, donors, community partners, and vendors.
  • Represent the YMCA professionally at community events and presentations.
  • Respond to requests with a solution-focused, customer-service mindset while balancing organizational priorities.

Budget Management
  • Develop and manage the marketing budget.
  • Monitor marketing expenditures and ensure effective use of resources.
  • Evaluate campaign ROI and recommend adjustments to maximize impact.
  • Obtain competitive quotes and manage relationships with marketing vendors and service providers.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Stay current on marketing trends, digital platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support YMCA operations and organizational goals.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Demonstrated experience leading marketing initiatives and managing projects from strategy through execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with the ability to provide direction, delegate responsibilities, support performance, and foster accountability among staff and volunteers.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, email marketing, websites, and digital communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite; Canva and Constant Contact experience preferred.
  • Experience with photography and basic video production.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple departments.
  • Nonprofit, recreation, education, or community organization experience is preferred
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend events as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to move throughout YMCA facilities and outdoor program areas, some with rough terrain, for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of marketing materials, or equipment.
  • Ability to travel between YMCA locations and community event sites.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on phone and via email.

  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (YMCA provided)
  • YMCA required safety and compliance training, including Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, and New Employee Safety Orientation.
