Crescent Energy is seeking an experienced Marketing Accountant to join our Houston-based marketing team. This position will be responsible for the accounting, settlement, analysis, and financial reporting associated with the company's crude oil, natural gas, and/or natural gas liquids marketing activities.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of oil and gas accounting experience, a strong understanding of commodity contracts and settlement processes, and the ability to work effectively across Accounting, Marketing, Operations and Finance teams. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can independently manage complex transactions, identify and resolve discrepancies, strengthen internal controls, and provide meaningful financial insight to management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage monthly marketing accounting and settlement activities for crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids
  • Review commercial contracts and ensure transactions are recorded and settled in accordance with contractual terms
  • Prepare and review monthly revenue, purchase, transportation, gathering, processing, and marketing-related accruals
  • Reconcile volumes, pricing, invoices, pipeline statements, third-party settlements, and general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze actual results against estimates and explain material volume, price, timing, and contractual variances.
  • Prepare customer and counterparty invoices and review vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and internal controls over marketing accounting and settlement processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, automate recurring activities, and enhance reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries, and providing supporting documentation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10 or more years of oil and gas accounting experience.
  • Significant experience with marketing, revenue, commodity, settlement, or midstream accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas contracts, commodity pricing, volume measurement, deductions, transportation, processing, and settlement concepts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet monthly close and settlement deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting, commercial, and operational teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant is a plus
  • Experience with both upstream and midstream accounting activities
  • Experience accounting for natural gas, crude oil, and natural gas liquids transactions
  • Familiarity with commodity pricing indices, pipeline statements, plant statements, imbalance accounting, and transportation arrangements
  • Experience with systems such as SAP, Oracle, Enertia, Quorum, RightAngle, Allegro, or similar platforms
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, divestitures, system conversions, or accounting-process integrations
