Job description

Cherry Bekaert has an immediate opening for an Accounting Manager to join our Not-for-Profit and Commercial practice. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of relevant experience in finance or accounting with experience in the functional and technical design of multiple modules (e.g., GL, AP, AR, Consolidations, etc.) and 5+ years of experience working within a Financial System solution (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.)

This position is critical in supporting multiple clients with all facets of operational accounting (GL, AP, AR, payroll, and reconciliations) to include preparation of the monthly financial package (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Statement, Cash Flow, etc.). On an annual basis, responsibilities include 1099 preparation and assisting with year-end financial statements.

Accounting Manager Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day and month-end close entries including revenue, payroll, prepaid expenses, unbilled accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.

  • Prepares/reviews complex reconciliations for necessary balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed.

  • Responsible for the month-end and year-end closing process.

  • Develops and maintains an understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client and obtains a working knowledge of the client's accounting software.

  • Assists external auditors and tax accountants with preparing schedules, providing explanations of supporting documents and procedures, and preparing additional data.

  • Assists in the preparation of the client's year-end 1099 submissions.

  • Recommends, designs, and implements department controls and procedures.

  • Communicates with clients on an ongoing basis.

  • Reviews and supervises the accounting teams' monthly work, including journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

  • Coaches and mentor staff and senior accountants

  • Disburses client requests to team members to manage deadlines

  • Client project management.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in the nonprofit accounting field with at least 3 years as a manager.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or degree in a related field combined with relevant accounting experience, CPA preferred.

  • Proficiency in the use of automated accounting system software and spreadsheet applications, such as Sage Intacct and/or QuickBooks.

  • Skilled at working with limited supervision and must demonstrate the ability to manage and coach employees and manage multiple client requirements.

  • Executive-level communication skills demonstrating the ability to extract relevant information from a large volume of data.

  • Advanced understanding of general and subsidiary ledgers and financial statements.

  • Strong project management skills including development and monitoring of engagement budgets.

  • Proactive, innovative, adheres to deadlines, responsive to client and management requirements.

  • Exhibits strong ethics, positive attitude, and calm demeanor under pressure.

  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment.
