  • Engineering planning & design for wastewater, potable water, recycled water, stormwater, roadway/highway, and site development and redevelopment
  • Surveying & mapping for tentative and final maps, record of surveys, plats and legal descriptions, as well as ALTA/NSPS, boundary, and topographic surveys
  • Construction management encompassing contract administration, construction observation, constructability reviews, cost analysis, claims management, and more.

Position Summary

The Staff Civil Engineer is a technically proficient and growth-oriented engineering professional responsible for supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects. This position is suited for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) who has demonstrated solid foundational design skills and is actively developing their project management competencies required for advancement to a Project Engineer or Project Manager role.

In addition to design production responsibilities, the Staff Civil Engineer is expected to contribute meaningfully to team development by delegating appropriate tasks to junior staff, providing mentorship, and helping build a culture of technical excellence and accountability within the project team.

Responsibilities

Qualified individuals will be called upon to complete the following tasks:

  • Support Project Manager and/or lead designer on projects.
  • Provide civil engineering design using AutoCAD Civil3D.
  • Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses, stormwater calculations, and infrastructure sizing in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, quantity take-offs, and technical analyses independently with appropriate documentation for QA/QC review.
  • Coordinate technical submittals, respond to agency review comments, and support permitting processes across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Maintain project files, design records, and documentation in alignment with firm standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Develop and coordinate project materials and presentations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, exhibits and presentations.
  • Possess the ability to work closely with team, clients, and public agency staff.
  • Prepare grading, drainage, paving, and utility plans.
  • Support the F&L Business Development Team.
  • Perform design-related fieldwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • EIT Certificate required
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in municipal and subdivision infrastructure design & mapping (internship experience qualifies)
  • AutoCAD Civil3D proficiency and interest in preparing grading, drainage, paving, utility plans, and exhibits
  • Experienced in preparing portions of plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Possess excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate and design multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. & have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to conduct periodic field visits, including active construction sites with the appropriate PPE worn
Preferred
  • Active pursuit of Professional Engineer (PE) licensure with exam scheduled or completed.
  • Experience with stormwater management design, drainage modeling, sewer modeling, ArcGIS, and/or roadway design.
  • Prior experience supervising or reviewing the work of junior engineering staff.
