Job description

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer (Digital Systems) supports digitalization and system integration initiatives within the manufacturing environment. This role works closely with operations, engineering and IT teams to improve operational efficiency, data visibility, system connectivity, and reporting capabilities. The position serves as a functional bridge between manufacturing stakeholders and IT developers, translating operational requirements into technical solutions that drive efficiency, traceability, and continuous improvement across the shop floor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support integration of manufacturing systems including MES, ERP (SAP preferred), automation platforms, quality management systems, and BI tools to ensure seamless data flow across the organization.
  • Assist in data integration activities including writing SQL queries, supporting ETL processes, and facilitating API connections between manufacturing and enterprise systems.
  • Participate in automation system integration projects, including defining data collection points, interface specifications, and connectivity requirements for the equipment.
  • Support data migration efforts and maintain data accuracy, validation, and governance across reporting and integration platforms.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of manufacturing dashboards and reports using Tableau, Qlik Sense/QlikView, or Power BI to support production performance tracking.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and engineering teams to define KPIs, reporting requirements, and analytical needs that drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Create and maintain automated reporting systems that provide actionable visibility into manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Drive paperless initiatives and digital workflow improvements on the shop floor, reducing reliance on manual processes and paper-based documentation.
  • Contribute to Industry 4.0 digitalization efforts that enhance connectivity between manufacturing systems and improve overall operational efficiency.
  • Translate functional manufacturing needs into clear technical requirements for IT development teams and external vendors.
  • Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), validation, and commissioning of new digital systems and software interfaces.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for system architectures, process flows, data integration specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Create and maintain project documentation, progress reports, and performance metrics to support digitalization initiatives.
  • Partner with IT teams to develop and implement system enhancements and automation solutions that meet manufacturing operational needs.
  • Train manufacturing personnel on BI tools, dashboards, and digital systems to ensure effective adoption across the organization.
  • Interface directly with Cross function team to gather requirements, validate system improvements, and ensure successful implementation of new tools and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required:
  • BI Tools: Qlik Sense/QlikView, Power BI or Tableau
  • Programming/Scripting: SQL (required), Python (required)
  • Databases: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement tools with focus on system optimization
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems including MES, ERP, SCADA, and data visualization platforms for digitalization initiatives
  • Effective communication and presentation skills for all organizational levels, particularly for business case presentations
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, digital twin, predictive analytics)
  • Familiarity with automation technologies and Industry 4.0 solutions for manufacturing environments
  • Experience with B2B integration platforms (EDI, API-based supplier portals)
  • Leadership capabilities to facilitate cross-functional collaboration with IT, Quality, and Process Engineering teams
  • Understanding of traceability requirements in electronics manufacturing (serialization, genealogy)

Education and Experience:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing systems, data analytics, or system integration.
Preferred:
  • 3-5 years of experience with focus on system integration, software Engineering support for automation projects
  • Prefer Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Information Systems
