Job description

Position Summary
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will join a fast-paced Healthcare Reprocessing team. You will interact with other engineering disciplines and cross functional team members during the development lifecycle phases from concept development through final release. In this role you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, collaborate with cross-functional team, utilize problem solving techniques and engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, material science and thermodynamics to address design challenges. You will be involved in 3D Modeling, Design Controls documentation, Design Verification Testing and hands-on prototyping while developing new and innovative solutions for our customers.
What You'll do as a Senior Mechanical Engineer
* Perform routine engineering analyses and resolve issues using problem solving techniques and/ or tests to support current products and develop new and innovative products
* Design, develop, test, and execute mechanical and/ or electromechanical solutions for components, assemblies to meet project or department goals from exploratory phase to production release
* Manage design and execution of assigned engineering tasks to meet project timeline, participate and/or lead technical design discussions, support and mentor junior engineers and engineering technicians
* Use Mechanical Engineering principles of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluids, and material science to develop design solutions for various STERIS IPT products
* Determine technical feasibility of new product or sub-assembly concepts using rapid prototyping methods like 3D printing and/or using machine shop tools like drills, mills etc.
* Uses 2D and 3D CAD software to prepare design sketches and assists with developing design layouts and drawings for variety of components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects
* Review and evaluate compliance to various STERIS and medical device code/ standards guideline and requirements
* Collaborate with Marketing, Reliability, Manufacturing, Service, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs etc.
* Interact with vendors, suppliers, and consultants on a limited basis to assure compliance with product requirements and specifications
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed
Required:
* Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree required
* A minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
* Expertise in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) and product life management tools (Windchill preferred)
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis, Computation Fluid Dynamics etc. (ANSYS preferred)
* Experience with design controls (process) in regulated industry (Medical preferred)
* Demonstrated experience in variety of materials, technologies and manufacturing methods, such as:Metals, polymers and composites
* Pneumatics, Hydraulics, electromechanical sensors
* Sheet Metal fabrication, machining, welding, forming, molding etc.
* Experience solving complex engineering problems, design and execution of components and/or sub-assemblies
