Job description

Summary


The purpose of this role is to support the superintendent in order to ensure the physical construction of the assigned project is done with a high level of quality, profitability and by meeting or exceeding the construction schedule. This role is responsible for all field activities including project set up, project execution, financial management, and relationship management. The Assistant Superintendent role is one of a leader and team player. The leadership displayed by this individual is critical to project performance.


TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Supervise craft workers assigned to area of responsibility.
  • Provide liaison between field engineering, estimating, and crafts to ensure compliance of construction with drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, materials quantities, equipment, requirements, etc. are maintained.
  • Monitor work performance and productivity of crafts to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained.
  • Ensure that craft time cards are completed to accurately reflecthours worked.
  • Advise senior level supervision and project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.
  • Assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
  • Maintain liaison with other departments, i.e., Purchasing, Accounting, Engineering, etc. as required to support construction schedule.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Educational and experience requirements include: 4 year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. Minimum of 6 years construction experience; minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity. Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and other documents, plus ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance is essential.
