Job Title: Managing Editor, Journals & Publications Editor (internal); Managing Editor of The 9th Street Journal (external)
The DeWitt Wallace Center for Media & Democracy, based in the Sanford School of Public Policy, provides media studies and journalism-related programs at Duke University. Through faculty research, undergraduate teaching, professional training for journalists, and active engagement in the field, the DeWitt Wallace Center identifies important challenges facing the media and our democracy and supports faculty and students in playing a leadership role in addressing these concerns.
The Managing Editor of The 9th Street Journal coordinates all phases of editorial development and production of The 9th Street Journal, Duke's student-written local news site for the Durham community. - Assign and advise reporting and photography staff; assist reporters with data and fact-checking; line-edit copy; and prepare content for publication.
- Publish all content to the online content management system.
Teaching and Mentorship (40%)
- Recruit, manage and mentor a team of students in their reporting and writing.
- Oversee student photographers and harness other students' interest to expand the site's use of social media, podcasts, and data visualizations.
- Teach one undergraduate course per academic year in the JAM curriculum.

Other Duties (10%)
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Recent examples include creating and conducting listening sessions in the community.
