Job description

About the Role:

As a Tooling Engineer based in the United States, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the tools and equipment essential for manufacturing processes. Your expertise will ensure that tooling solutions are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with production goals, directly impacting product quality and operational efficiency. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance to optimize tooling designs and troubleshoot issues. This role demands a proactive approach to continuous improvement, leveraging engineering principles to innovate and enhance tooling systems. Ultimately, your contributions will support the seamless production of high-quality products while minimizing downtime and manufacturing costs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in tooling design and development within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for tooling design.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, stamping, molding, or assembly.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CNC programming and operation.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Experience working in automotive, aerospace, or heavy machinery industries.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and validate tooling and fixtures to support manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with product design and manufacturing teams to ensure tooling meets production requirements and quality standards.
  • Analyze existing tooling performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling-related issues during production to minimize downtime.
  • Manage tooling documentation, including specifications, drawings, and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for tooling procurement and maintenance services.
  • Support the implementation of new manufacturing technologies and processes related to tooling.

Skills:

The required skills such as CAD proficiency and manufacturing process knowledge are essential for designing precise and functional tooling that meets production needs. Problem-solving abilities enable the engineer to quickly identify and resolve tooling issues, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing. Collaboration skills are vital as the role involves working closely with multiple departments to align tooling solutions with product and process requirements. Preferred skills like CNC programming and knowledge of GD&T enhance the engineer’s capability to create more sophisticated tooling and ensure dimensional accuracy. Additionally, certifications in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing support continuous improvement initiatives, driving efficiency and quality in tooling operations.
