Job description

Tooling Engineer

Auria is a leading global supplier of highly-engineered systems for automotive flooring, acoustical, thermal, aerodynamic and other fiber-based solutions for gas and electric vehicles. With U.S.-based operational headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, Auria operates 16 manufacturing, 9 technical and 5 JV locations across 10 countries and employs approximately 3,700 people worldwide.

We are currently searching for a TOOLING ENGINEER to join our team. This role can be based within any of our US plants, and will be determined upon the successful candidate's location.

What you will do:

  • Work with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Capital Equipment groups to develop "Best Practices" tooling line-ups for different products/processes.
  • Create detailed tooling specifications for external sourcing of new tooling, in close cooperation with Procurement, Plants, Product Engineering and Program Management Teams. Specifications will detail technical/safety requirements as well as operational performance metrics including program life, program volume and cycle times.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for external tooling vendors: specification review and quoting, design review and acceptance prior to fabrication, define tooling acceptance criteria (Tooling Checklist), ensuring effective tool acceptance process prior to ship (at supplier), & onsite buyoff (at Auria). Acceptance at tool shop is to be indicative of successful Job 1 at Auria manufacturing location. Complete routine progress checks with supplier to evaluate progress and mitigate risk. All deviations to be documented and brought to resolution; agreed upon by cross functional team.
  • Standardize tooling and components across plants as much as possible and applicable.
  • Work with Global Procurement to define supplier panel for new tools, engineering changes and maintenance.
  • Actively support tooling launches at plants including travel as needed.
  • Support ECR process, quoting changes via EC internal versus external service allocations.
  • Establish budget set up from approved work orders to fund tooling programs or changes.
  • Issue purchase orders to external sources and approve invoices per payment terms.
  • Coordinate financial tracking with Program Management and Financial Teams.
  • Manage open engineering issues deck and provide evidence in PLEX.
  • Track and maintain tooling spending to budget.
  • Manage scope shift changes to tooling projects.
  • Establish tooling timing for program in conjunction with program and plant management teams.
  • Support tooling feasibility studies.
  • Conduct and lead ECMA buyoff process for all in house tooling prior to shipping.
  • Support and confirm manufacturing requirements for material usage against awarded BOM.
  • Support plants for resolving tooling technical issues.
  • Provide technical input for new product quotations.
  • Development of supply base.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will gain as a part of the Auria Team:

  • An opportunity to enroll in full medical, dental and vision plan. As well as voluntary benefits.
  • Fertility Benefits available for those enrolled in our medical plan for financial support of treatment options.
  • Parental Leave and Adoption and Surrogacy Benefits for salaried employees.
  • Tuition Reimbursement available for eligible employees to continue education.
  • Auria matches 50% of your contributions up to 8%, for a maximum Auria match of 4%.
  • Salary Continuation & Long-Term Disability (LTD).

What you will bring:

  • Bachelors in a Technical Field.

Travel Requirements:

  • 30%.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • 5+ years automotive experience, preferably in a technical role.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • 3D CAD proficiency preferred (in NX and/or SolidWorks and Catia V5 is a plus).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong multitasking and organization skills.
  • Experience in automotive and tooling terminology is a plus.
