Job description

Position Title: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence, RI
Hours: Full time
General Description: Hands-on working supervisor performing routine maintenance tasks and overseeing custodial staff. Performs routine maintenance, and service within the parish setting. Maintains and operates standard pieces of equipment, e.g., mowers, snow blowers, trimmers, power tools, ladders and lifts, etc., used to maintain the parish facilities and grounds.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that the church or other worship areas are prepared for scheduled liturgies or other religious services. This includes cleanliness, appropriate and adequate lighting, accessibility through appropriate entranceways, adequate heating or cooling, etc.
  • Performs routine plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and painting tasks according to accepted standards.
  • Ensures that vital parish systems (boilers, HVAC systems, etc.) are in working order and maintained according to periodic maintenance schedules.
  • Regularly checks and repairs electrical lighting systems. Replaces bulbs, sensors and switches to ensure adequate lighting for convenience, safety and security.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks around the parish such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, repairing locks, doors, hinges and gates.
  • May be required to perform light yard work and landscaping duties such as lawn mowing and trimming, raking and sweeping and snow removal using a shovel and/ or powered equipment.
  • Performs other manual tasks as required or directed.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must be able to read and write in English (as appropriate)
  • Must be capable of performing a variety of physical tasks and movements including lifting up to 50 lbs. on occasion and 25lbs routinely, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and squatting
Education, Training and/ or Experience:
  • A high school diploma or a GED certificate is desirable but not necessary
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience performing maintenance duties (as indicated above) in a church, commercial, or other organizational setting.
Special Requirements (if applicable):
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in all climate conditions.
  • Must be capable of climbing ladders and scaffolding and working at heights up to 24โ€™.
  • Rotating on-call schedule, 24/7 for emergencies and special events.
  • Must be very organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage staff and perform multiple tasks.
  • Reports to the Business Manager.
