Description

Summary of Position: Full-time position for Building Crafts Inc, a general contractor working primarily in waste water and water treatment plant construction. The Safety Manager will create, support, and audit our programs which reinforce our commitment to safety. The safety manager will be responsible for the successful implementation and support of the Site-Specific Safety Plan to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment.

Reports to: Corporate Safety Director
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with BCI's safety department to further develop the overall Safety Program and Site-Specific Safety Plan(s).
  • Coordinate with Project Supervisors so that necessary protective equipment and safety materials are utilized, adequate first aid materials are available, and safety documents are maintained on-site.
  • Support project managers and superintendents in ensuring each construction project is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, subcontractors, and the general public.
  • Prioritize and problem-solve with operations in the field.
  • Conduct site inspections and confirm corrective actions are executed.
  • Help monitor regional schedules to identify upcoming high-risk activities within the company.
    • Work with operations to develop strategies for these high-risk tasks.
    • Assist onsite with implementation of said strategies to ensure safety for all involved.
  • Maintain required permit compliance as it relates to project tasks.
  • Ensure daily, monthly, annual Inspections on tools and equipment are being performed and documented as required.
  • Investigate, document, and report all work comp/auto/GL claims and recommend corrective action.
 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study is preferred.  An acceptable mix of education, experience, and certifications will be considered.
  • Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to perform various safety functions on-site, including managing/administering safety orientations, and investigating/reporting injuries/illnesses/near misses.
  • Ability to work with all groups: BCI staff and management, owner's representatives, trades, and subcontractors.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA safety processes and guidelines, and Worker's Compensation Regulations.
  • OSHA 30 and CPR/First-Aid Certified
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

  • Frequent travel by car; Proof of insurance and a clean DMV record may be required.
  • Physically able to perform jobsite audits. This includes but is not limited to: climbing ladders & stairs, large percentage of day walking on rough terrain, and working in all types of weather.
  • Will be required to wear appropriate PPE equipment when in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; sit; talk and hear.  The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
