Job description

Position Title: Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
Location: 1026 Keith Drive, Perry, GA 31069
Department: Clinical Services
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer and Program Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time and Part-Time Available
Pay Range: $17.00–$20.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct supervision, support, and encouragement to adolescents receiving residential mental health treatment. The BHT promotes a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment by monitoring resident behavior, assisting with daily routines, encouraging participation in treatment activities, and communicating observations to the clinical and nursing teams. This position does not perform nursing duties or provide therapy.


Essential Job Duties

·         Provide continuous supervision of residents to ensure safety and compliance with facility expectations.

·         Build positive, therapeutic relationships with adolescents through professional interactions.

·         Monitor resident behavior and report significant changes to nursing or clinical staff.

·         Assist residents with daily schedules, hygiene reminders, meals, recreation, and bedtime routines.

·         Facilitate and encourage participation in therapeutic groups, educational programming, and recreational activities.

·         Conduct routine room checks and environmental safety checks.

·         Perform safety rounds and maintain accurate documentation.

·         Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques during behavioral crises.

·         Follow facility policies regarding suicide precautions, elopement prevention, and crisis response.

·         Document behavioral observations objectively and accurately.

·         Assist with admissions, room orientation, and discharge preparation.

·         Transport residents within the facility or to appointments when assigned.

·         Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment.

·         Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and clinical consultations.

·         Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.


Qualifications

·         Previous experience working with adolescents, behavioral health, mental health, residential treatment, or substance use treatment preferred but not required.

·         Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

·         Ability to successfully complete criminal background checks and drug screening.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to remain calm and professional during crisis situations.

·         Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed.


Physical Requirements

·         Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the workday.

·         Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.

·         Ability to safely intervene during behavioral emergencies using approved de-escalation techniques.

·         Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
