Job description

This position will work directly with school administration, staff, and with students who are at risk of falling behind in the areas of Attendance, Behavior and Course Performance. There will be a specific focus on addressing behavioral concerns with students and will approach the work with a restorative mindset.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Help administrators, staff, community, parents, and students will work together to strengthen factors that support and encourage peaceful conflict resolution skills and provide sound interventions for students who need extra support for behavior.
  • Support all staff to learn about and implement Restorative Practices.
  • Use Restorative Practices techniques with students who have been assigned to ISS and ensure there is communication about next steps with applicable colleagues and that there is follow up.
  • Facilitate connection circles and other Restorative Practice techniques with students who are in conflict to prevent physical fights and other behavior.
  • Help all staff to access appropriate training in social-emotional learning, restorative practices, culturally responsive practices, anti-racist education, de-escalation strategies, and trauma informed education practices.
  • Schedule time to hold and facilitate connection circles with staff and students in and onging effort to build relationships in the school community and model restorative techniques.
  • Facilitate the development of a restorative discipline plan that transitions the school's current discipline policy to a fully restorative plan.
  • Help administrators, staff, community, parents, and students work together to strengthen factors that support and encourage peaceful conflict resolution skills and provide sound interventions for students who need extra support for behavior.

DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:
  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff.

REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid NM Teacher's Level II or Level III license appropriate to teaching assignment.
  • 200 K-8 for Elementary
  • 350 5-9 for Middle-Level
  • 300 6-12 Secondary for middle and high school.
