MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Protocol Officer to join our team in Springfield, VA. This role is 100% on-site.
The Protocol Officer is a core member of the protocol team responsible for the detailed planning and hands-on execution of official visits, ceremonies, and special events. The Protocol Officer works under the guidance of senior protocol staff to manage a variety of logistical and procedural tasks, ensuring that all events are conducted with precision and in accordance with established etiquette. The contractor will manage direct coordination with distinguished visitors and their staffs, manage event components from start to finish, and serve as a knowledgeable resource on protocol matters for the organization.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate end-to-end logistics for distinguished guests, including the development of detailed itineraries, secure transportation, and premium accommodations.
  • Draft essential event materials, including official agendas, guest biographies, scene-setters, and minute-by-minute sequences of events to ensure mission alignment.
  • Serve as the primary escort and point of contact for visitors and vendors, maintaining schedule integrity and resolving real-time logistical inquiries.
  • Execute official ceremonies and social functions by managing complex seating charts, invitation outreach, and curated menu coordination.
  • Oversee the inventory of protocol assets, including flags and official gifts, ensuring selections align with diplomatic etiquette and cultural customs.
  • Provide comprehensive event support by managing registration, directing guest flow, and conducting cultural research to support seamless diplomatic engagement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in protocol, event planning, or a closely related field such as military aide, VIP hospitality, or government affairs
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, or a related field. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, 10+ years of experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience managing logistics for meetings, conferences, or official visits.
  • Proficiency with event management software and databases.
  • Experience with anticipating potential issues and demonstrate resourcefulness in finding solutions in a fast-paced setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal Training: Completion of a protocol or event management certificate program.
  • Government/Military Experience: Prior experience working within a government or military environment.

Clearance Requirements:
  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to obtain a polygraph.

Physical Requirements:
  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
