Job description

Overview
The Carrier Development and Pricing Manager plays a key role within the Supply Chain Solutions team, responsible for building and optimizing Yusen's land transportation carrier network across all modes. This role leads carrier onboarding, performance management, and relationship development while driving pricing strategy, rate governance, and data accuracy. The manager ensures that carrier capabilities, customer requirements, operational efficiency, and profitability are balanced to deliver reliable, cost-effective transportation solutions.
Responsibilities
Carrier Development
  • Drive expansion of reliable carrier base across multiple transportation modes - truckload, LTL, intermodal, parcel
  • Manage existing carrier base through lane allocation strategies, routing guides
  • Onboard and contract carriers
  • Balance carrier engagement along with customer needs, operational efficiency, and Yusen profitability.

Carrier Onboarding, Performance and Relationship Management
  • Set carrier expectations through onboarding and business review calls
  • Define and document carrier process and performance expectations
  • Manage carrier performance, ensure issues are addressed and KPI targets are met
  • Maintain relationship with various stakeholder groups on the carrier side
  • Collaborate with people managers, account owners, operators to validate carrier development strategies and ensure compliance

Pricing Management
  • Generate customer pricing strategies to the Sales and Operations team. For larger opportunities, make accurate forecast of purchased transportation in order to facilitate improved pricing decisions and gross margin expectations.
  • Manage RFQs, while exhibiting exceptional time management skills.
  • Collaborate with Solutions Development, contribute to the creation of competitive routing and pricing solutions.
  • Contribute to YLA's success and development through an ability to be hands-on and perform analysis of customer transportation needs.

Rate and Data Management
  • design and maintain an effective multi-mode transportation rate management strategy
  • collaborate with Yusen IT and external software partner(s) to understand high level and detailed TMS rating engine capabilities
  • ensure rates are entered timely, accurately, and in a manner that enables system driven AP/AR financial estimate calculations
  • Ability to clearly define the required inputs for developing solid routing, pricing proposals, and maintaining rates in Yusen's TMS system
  • Organize data for use with transportation optimization, pricing, and analytics; understand key elements of the data and critical assumptions made in the absence of customer information.
  • Qualify risks and key assumptions (i.e. how they impact a potential value proposal and profitability of YLA).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred
  • Five to seven years' experience in supply chain / logistics / transportation Account Management, Customer Service, Inside Sales/Sales Support, Operations, or related functions, required
  • Three years of direct experience managing/purchasing carrier transportation services
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Be receptive to new ideas and different approaches, open to change management
  • Ability to drive long distances and/or travel overnight as required.
  • Ability to receive and understand direction from supervision and management
  • Ability to Travel (up to 15%).
  • Capability and competency at the user level in logistics technology applications in the areas of Transportation Management System and other relevant systems/ tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with executives, clients and internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication (Verbal & Written) across all levels in the company is required.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment.
