Job description

Position Details:
Our client, a world-leading Pharmaceutical Company in Pearl River, NY is currently looking for an Scientist to join their expanding team.
Job Title: Scientist / Molecular Biology (PCR, Cloning) 
Duration: 12 months contract, extendable up to 48 months
Location: Pearl River, NY
Fully onsite role (5 days/week) at the lab.
Note:
The client has the right-to-hire you as a permanent employee at any time during or after the end of the contract.

Description:
BS in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, or related field + at least 2 years of hands-on lab experience,
OR
MS in a related field (with relevant lab experience).
Hands-on molecular biology lab experience (academic or industry). 
Must include independent bench work.
Core technical proficiency in:
PCR/RT-PCR
Cloning techniques
Fully onsite role (5 days/week) at the lab.
Ability to work standard hours (e.g., 8–4 or 9–5) with occasional weekend work if needed.
Strong collaboration and communication skills for team meetings and lab coordination.
 
Nice-to-Haves
Virology experience (any type: human, plant, etc.).
Familiarity with molecular biology software (e.g., SnapGene, Geneious Prime).
Experience with sequencing techniques (advantageous but not required).
Prior experience in academic or industry research projects involving molecular biology.
Candidates from New York/New Jersey area preferred for commute, but relocation is acceptable.
 
Additional Details
Duration: 1 year (with potential for extension based on funding and performance).
Onsite only: No remote work.
Interview process: One video interview; final decision by hiring manager.
Start timeline: ASAP after requisition approval and background clearance.
 
Summary:
The main function of a Bench Scientist is to execute laboratory-based experiments that support scientific research, product development, and technical investigations. This role involves hands-on work with analytical and characterisation techniques, contributing directly to data generation, method optimisation, and problem-solving. Bench Scientists differ from lab assistants in that they are responsible for the execution and interpretation of scientific protocols, often working closely with research leads to inform decision-making.
 
Job Responsibilities:
Conduct laboratory experiments using established scientific methods to support research and development objectives.
Prepare and analyse samples using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.
Document experimental procedures, results, and observations in compliance with GLP and internal standards.
Collaborate with scientists and project teams to troubleshoot issues and interpret data.
 
Skills:
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation relevant to the scientific discipline.
Ability to follow and adapt scientific protocols with attention to detail. Strong documentation and data interpretation skills.
Effective communication and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
Education/Experience: Degree in a scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field. 0-2 years experience required.
