Job description

The Manager-Operations is responsible for directing and coordinating the discharge and loading operations of provisions, luggage, ship materials and/or waste for the assigned cruise operations in San Diego. All operations are to be conducted in a time-sensitive and cost-efficient manner, while maintaining the highest levels of quality, security and most of all safety by abiding by applicable regulations, company directives and guidelines, as well as client standards of service.

This hands-on position will manage assigned Superintendents and direct Union labor, against a canvas of Union rules and regulations and past practices, while maintaining a positive and amicable work relationship.

  • Plan, design and implement all cruise vessel operations.
  • Liaise with customers, authorities, union labor and officials, contractors and company staff on any operational requirements.
  • Ensure availability of equipment and personnel required to conduct tasks effectively per the operations plan.
  • Supervise personnel in proper operating procedures, and as needed counsel, discipline and/or make termination recommendations.
  • Plan, conduct and/or organize safety meetings as part of the operation briefing at start of operations, addressing key safety hazards, requirements for always using appropriate PPE.
  • Coordinate with Sr. Director Safety and HSE Manager for continued review of safety protocols and their adherence to.
  • Have all staff members comply with company policies and procedures, government and industry-related regulations and safety rules, and any other applicable laws and rules.
  • Ensure all staff members are familiar with Union regulations, by laws and acknowledged past-practices.
  • Drive improvements and enhancement towards continued achievement of goals, objectives and standards,
  • Engage with customers regularly to ensure concerns are addressed and satisfaction standards are met or exceeded.
  • Monitor spending to ensure expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Directly participate in monthly and annual financial planning, forecasting and financial review of the San Diego cruise operations
  • Investigate and report on any injuries and any damage involving our equipment, staff and/or workers which form a liability to our company or management.
  • Participate in the settlements of on-the-job grievances and participate in scheduled Labor Relations Committee proceedings.
  • Ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Complete various reports and forms such as activity reports, payroll, and safety summaries; and present these reports to respective parties within required deadlines.
  • Other duties as required.
