Summary / Primary Role:
The Logistics Account Specialist I (LAS I) has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations for assigned accounts and is responsible for the management and handling of both empty and loaded domestic shipments from initial tender from customer until final delivery at the destination.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
(Management may amend or assign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time)
  • Manage account and lead client relationship with Odyssey's clients and Carriers/Logistics Service Providers (LSPs).

  • Resolve any potential service failures and communicate appropriately and timely with clients; develop and provide alternative service recovery options if unable to retain the original level of service.

  • Attend and participate in client business reviews and meetings as required.

  • Proactively identify and resolve pick up, delivery, or in-transit exceptions and minimize impact to our customers. Shipment exceptions typically are the result of mechanical breakdowns, transit delays, lost shipments, etc.

  • Develop solutions to any shipment exception investigations and bring them to resolution, including but not limited to, the recovery of shipments as well as the investigation and documented entry into the tracking system of pick-up and delivery changes that are client and carrier caused.

  • Serve as the primary liaison to Odyssey clients to rectify and develop a plan of action when delivery delays occur when carrier has not responded to the tracking team after two requests.

  • Prioritize tasks in order of importance while handling frequent requests for information.

  • Utilize Odyssey's propriety management systems, and work within our client's ERP to execute shipment management throughout the shipment cycle.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all expedite tracking data for their respective client team(s).

  • Contribute documentation of all tasks to assist in the training of others.

  • Participate in training others as required.

  • Maintain the highest level of service standards on all shipments.

  • Work cooperatively and productively with Logistics Operations leadership in order to complete tasks in accordance with Odyssey standards and any applicable contracted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Interface with IT as required for system enhancements and upgrades.

  • Consciously maintain a safe work environment.

Qualifications and Key Skills:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent required.

  • 2-5 Years' experience in a similar logistics and transportation role required.

  • Experience planning door to door shipments via rail and trucking companies preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and after hours, as needed.

  • Excellent customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge of logistics and transportation documents, terminology, and principles is required.

  • Strong communication and listening skills, particularly when dealing with a variety of people and situations over the phone and via email.

  • Good analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to quickly adjust to changing tactical situations as necessary and exercise sound judgment.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to establish priorities and effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified timeframes.

  • Ability to present oneself and communicate in a professional, positive, and courteous manner with all clients, vendors, visitors, and other Odyssey personnel.

  • Aptitude to maintain timely, complete, and accurate records.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have supervisory oversight.
Expected Hours of Work:
Associate must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled.
